National Fire Protection Association Releases 2018 Edition of Fire Code

New chapters address marijuana growing and processing facilities

Vista, CA., March 23, 2018 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) have released a brand-new version of the NFPA 1 Fire Code.  The previous version was released in 2015.  The 2018 edition features brand new chapters on marijuana facilities focused on growing, processing, and extraction  as well as purging of flammable gas piping systems.  Along with the new chapters, there are various revisions and updates to existing topics and sections.

“Since we are located in Southern California, the NFPA 1 Fire Code is extremely important to us,” says BNI Building News’ Vice President, John Moore, “From the Santa Ana winds to brush fires, it doesn’t take much to start a fire out here, so any preventable measure helps.”

The NFPA 1 Fire Code is primarily used by code officials, inspectors, facility owners, facility managers, and fire marshals.  It focuses on preventative approaches to fire hazards and hazard management.  The NFPA publishes several other notable codes such as the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the NFPA 101: Life Safety Code.  They function as a nonprofit organization and have been in the business since 1896.
